My latest project amused me to no end. I have never imagined I would be so happy drawing and painting pigs. :DI got the idea when I saw my sister's Piglet stuffed toy on my bed. It's been there for quite some time now and have been serving as an additional pillow. And I thought to myself, Pigs are cute. I should write about pigs. I don't know if I can draw pigs, but I can try. What about pigs could I write about though? They are born small, cute, but grow to be kind of weird. They love to eat, mud, and then they become bacon.
That's kind of sad, isn't it? So what if pigs could travel? What if they could see the world themselves, instead of being transported everywhere as strips of meat? So the story really is fantasy. But even my fantasies have to be based on reality, so I make traveling Tolliver's dream. And I hope you're with me in hoping that someday he really does get to travel.
My favorite page is the one with Tolliver trying to buy a ticket from a Monkey Ticket Master. You see, finding myself so successful in illustrating pigs, I dared to take it a step further and drew a monkey. With no reference whatsoever except the one in my head. I loved the Monkey from the Wizard of Oz (the movie though was so-and-so). So he was my model for the story.
Just now I have also decided that my next children's story would be about a Monkey Ticket Master. Yep, the very one featured in the last page of Tolliver's story. It would be cute, having that continuity. Don't you think? Haha!
